Video: National Reassessment Program Lawsuit Against USPS Could Cost Millions

After U.S. postal workers were injured and then fired, they sued the U.S.P.S. So why would taxpayers be footing the bill?

The U.S. Post Office said it was simply looking out for taxpayer money.

But now, 13WHAM News has learned that decisions USPS made almost a decade ago could cost taxpayers millions of dollars – and Rochester is right at the center of it.

“I remember I was drenched in sweat. The pain was incredible,” said Frank Loose of Rochester.

He’s talking about July 4, 2006. On that holiday, he was on the job working as a mail sorter at the postal warehouse on Lyell Avenue.

Just after midnight, between the area of docks 8 and 9, he was struck by a forklift. According to the police report, the operator drove over Loose’s foot, put it in reverse, and rolled over it a second time. Three of his toes were crushed, and he also suffered painful ligament and tendon damage.

“That’s the day my life changed forever,” Loose told 13WHAM’s Jane Flasch. Read more

  1. Did anyone else receive a 1099-M from the USPS regarding this lawsuit for a large amount of money?
    I received one and I never got a dime..
    Now the State wants their part stating I had X$$ amount of OTHER INCOME….that the USPS reported I RECEIVED.
    My tax returns were held, my checks were garnished and I didn’t receive the California stimulus that I should have gotten.
    If I would have known I was going to lose more money by filing/signing this class action I would have NOT.
    What’s next??? This is very stressful

    Bonnie – I have not heard of this at all. You need to post this question at PEN’s NRP forum and see what everyone tells you. Sounds funny to me. You must register at our forum before you can read or post. Follow this link: https://postalemployeenetwork.com/forums.htm

  2. Hello All,

    Though the story was well presented, there were a few items that missed the mark.

    First, I don’t see where the taxpayers ade liable as the postal service is self funded;

    Second, I was removed from service in 2014, for the second time following a surgery, seeking to achieve Maximum Medical Improvement;

    Third, that the managers caught lying to all concerned – though removed from their positions at the Rochester NY plant – are still employed after shattering numerous Laws of the Land designed to protect American citizens.

    I welcome the opportunity to talk with my fellow employees, expand on the information thats out there.

    Keep fighting the fight, Never, Never, Never, Never give up. Keep the Faith.

  3. Out of that 130,000 strong for this class, the usps need to tell the public that 7 billion dollars was negotiated to settle this class. That in mind folks has yet to be reached because we all know that when you settle before the final hearing, this agency will not be held liable for their acts unless the judge at the final hearing finds merit and issues the monetary compensation. Good day all…….this is VET

  4. Let the truth be told, FINALLY!!! They need to right their wrong! They destroyed so many lives and should be held accountable for their actions. By no means, should this be pushed off on the taxpayers. Management received huge bonuses for what they did to us. They knew what they were doing was wrong but continued on with their illegal actions. I say let them pay, take back every penny they were awarded & then some. Let them see how it feels to lose everything you own.

  5. Are you serious? The USPS is going to lie and say the TAXPAYERS are going to fit the bill? ABSOLUTELY WRONG. I was told by the very attorneys from the class that the USPS has insurance for their negligence. IT was their discriminatory actions that caused ALL of this and again they attempt to blame the workers that got taken out of work… THEY also failed to STATE that it was 132 thousand injured postal employees that were effected by their acts of discrimination and that the damages total hundreds of millions of dollars as these employees lost EVERYTHING!
