Congressman Tim Moore Urges USPS to Reopen Chimney Rock Post Office

WASHINGTON, D.C. — This week, Congressman Tim Moore (NC-14) penned a letter calling on the U.S. Postal Service to immediately reopen the Chimney Rock Village Post Office, which has remained closed since Hurricane Helene devastated the region. Although repairs have been completed and a USPS assessment in October 2025 deemed the facility suitable for operation, the post office has not resumed service.

“Reopening the Chimney Rock Village Post Office would provide much-needed stability and represent meaningful progress in the community’s recovery. I strongly urge the Postal Service to act promptly to restore operations and ensure residents have access to the essential services they rely on,” Congressman Moore wrote in the letter.

The extended closure has placed a significant burden on residents and small businesses, many of whom now travel outside the community for basic mail services — including prescription deliveries, bill payments, and other essential correspondence.

Dear Postmaster General Steiner,
I am writing to urge the expedited reopening of the Chimney Rock Village Post Office in
Chimney Rock, North Carolina. Restoring full U.S. Postal Service (USPS) operations is a critical
step in the community’s recovery effort and an essential service for residents and local
businesses.
As you know, the Chimney Rock USPS facility was temporarily closed to undergo repairs
following the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. In the months since, the facility owner
and community have worked diligently to complete those repairs, and an assessment conducted
on October 31, 2025, confirmed that the facility is suitable to resume operations. Despite this
determination, postal services have not yet been restored, and the prolonged closure has created
unnecessary hardship for residents who rely on consistent mail delivery for prescriptions and
other essentials.
Reopening the Chimney Rock Village Post Office would provide much-needed stability and
represent meaningful progress in the community’s recovery. I strongly urge the Postal Service to
act promptly to restore operations and ensure residents have access to the essential services they
rely on.
I appreciate your careful consideration of this request and look forward to working with your
team to achieve a timely and effective resolution for the people of Chimney Rock.
