Video shows Bay Area USPS driver crashing into parked car, then driving off

SAN RAMON, Calif. (KGO) — 10/31/24 – A surveillance video has once again solved a whodunit for a Bay Area viewer. An East Bay dad arrived home to find that someone had crashed into his parked car.

At first, he suspected his teenage kids who had been driving it that day. Then, he checked his Ring camera video, and it showed a surprising culprit.

It was not someone you’d expect to hit your car and then flee the scene. But that’s what happened, and months later, this family is still trying to recoup their loss.

Brady Muir of San Ramon got the urgent call from his son. “I just want you to know something’s wrong with the car — the back is all smashed,” the teen said. Their Volkswagen Jetta parked in front of the house was mysteriously damaged.

“I was hard on my kids. I was like, ‘OK, just tell me what you did,'” said Muir.

His teenagers said they were not responsible. They’d gone to get burgers and returned safely. “Literally we went to In-N-Out, and then came home,” they said.

Muir scrolled through his Ring camera video. “All of a sudden, I see the post office (truck),” he said.

He was shocked at what he saw. The video shows a mail delivery truck with no driver inside slowly rolling away from the curb. The driver runs back and jumps inside.

“All of sudden it just went out of control,” said Muir. “Then you hear a large bang, and the Volkswagen moved like four or five feet. Oh my holy cow, like, it was the post office – I was in complete disbelief.” Read more at ABC 7 News

  1. Sorry Brain, the age-old USPS mantra about how it’s not funded via tax dollars hasn’t been true for a long time.
I.e., Biden gave them $5 million for the 2020 election to help with “ballot delivery”, cough.
There are many other examples, including Treasury loans never paid back, etc.

  2. Lets see how many things “Sage” can be wrong about. No ones tax dollars fund the Post Office. Retired means no longer on the street, in a mail truck, to potentially hit anything else. And since I am not a lawyer, and “Sage” clearly isnt either, I can only imagine the other inaccuracies in the rest of the rant.

  3. Captured on video – excellent evidence of what happened. This is a hit and run crime – contact police immediately and press charges. The victim is financially injured. Contact an attorney and start a lawsuit. Sue to cover all costs. ALL. Research on your own. Dumbest comment: “They never told me I had to file a form”. Never expect the person, company, or government agency that hurt you – to help you willingly. This is especially true where a CRIME (hit and run) was committed. We don’t know the postal workers side of what happened, but much can be seen from the video. Parking brake not set, truck left in gear, stepped on the gas instead of the brake. Never reported the accident to police. Ran from the scene. Postal worker retired immediately. Retired? Not setting parking brake and leaving it in gear was likely a violation of USPS policy. Had he contacted his supervisor/manager immediately he may have been reprimanded or fired if investigation found other issues – such as drinking/driving. Allowed to retire means your tax dollars now support a negligent criminal. Who else will he hurt?
