9/3/24 – –NARFE has now moved to support a discharge petition for H.R. 82, the Social Security Fairness Act, which aims to repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO). Your support is crucial, and the time to act is now. With the discharge petition expected to be filed on September 10, we need to gather 218 signatures to bring the bill to the House floor for a vote once filed. 

Although we surpassed the milestone required of 290 cosponsors for the House Consensus Calendar rule, with few legislative days remaining, a discharge petition is the route that led sponsors Rep. Garret Graves (R-LA) and Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) have taken to move H.R. 82 forward. NARFE also supports this action, which offers a more immediate path to a floor vote, given the limited time left in the legislative session.
