‘Lost packages, delays’ – USPS shipping and mail delivery issues continue as holiday gift shopping kicks into high gear

GREENSBORO, N.C. — It’s the holiday season which already means an influx of packages being shipped. With the challenges brought on by the global pandemic, many are worried their gifts and purchases will not arrive in time for Christmas.

Several people have sent emails to WFMY News 2 complaining they have tracked their delayed packages to the USPS facility in Greensboro. They said the tracking system shows packages stuck there for days. Some said they have called customer service or gone to the post office themselves to try to get help finding the packages.

“USPS Greensboro, NC, Distribution Center, where packages go to die,” posted Facebook user Christine Clifton of Saxapahaw.

“In the past three weeks, things have gotten extremely bad. I sent a perishable item priority two days and it took five days and the item perished because it sat in the Greensboro distribution center for three days. Every single one of my packages in the past three weeks has either been not delivered or lost,” wrote Anne-Marie Castillo of Greensboro.

Castillo said some of her packages have bounced between the distribution center and the network distribution center for two days before delivery.

“Things will get marked delivered but when I go to my mailbox nothing is there,” Castillo said in an interview Friday. WFMY

  1. Please fix updates on packages on your web site Thank You and Merry Christmas

  2. yep got the same problem with a package i sent to my son on nov. 27th and he finally got it on dec. 9th. his banana bread i baked for him was litterally covered in mold when he received it , i wrote the word perishables on the whole box . my son got it and said some of his cookies were crushed, i had them packed in a freezer bag inside a container with bubblewrap . i think next year i will ship christmas packages like 2 months ahead of christmas. it’s pretty sad your christmas packages have to sit there for almost 2 weeks before they decide to transport it to the next delivery facility. my package for my grandkids in pa has been is transit to the next postal facility between greensboro and pa. no telling when they will get it or if they will get it before christmas

  3. well see i understand about covid19 and everything, but why hold up a package going from asheboro,nc to arnold,pa. that was sent on dec. 11th and was supposed to be there by dec. 14th is still in transit since dec. 16th. all i have to say is it better get to arnold,pa. before christmas, this is now dec. 21st. like a small package i sent on nov. 27th and it was supposed to arrive in jackson springs,nc from asheboro,nc and it arrived yesterday the 20th in jackson springs,nc, my grandkids are waiting for their christmas gifts from me and my husband. get on the ball and get it to my grandkids

  4. I mailed a package on dec. 7 Eagleville,Pa from Mt. Pleasant , Pa. the tracking number does not go beyond Dec 14, tells me it will be late and is still in transit. This is a 200 mile journey we make in half a day, yet today is Dec 21 and I am in limbo. I paid for signature delivery to take three day at worst. How is this possible? Two weeks and I have no clue where this package is.! The tracking number is 9502316301320342393073. I paid almost 28 dollars to ship this package and I cannot get a human being on the phone or any help on line. If this is how my packages will be handled , I have no confidence in this system… please respond with some kind of positive response. Thank you. Erika Clara

  5. I have tracked a pkg from ebay to the Oak Creek distribution center in Milwaukee, WI. Been there for 8 days; I suspect it’s lost not delayed since I have other pkgs that went through there and have been delivered. Will wait until after Christmas to request a trace.

  6. Dropped package at USPS in Cranbury NJ on 12/10…it arrived in Jersey City on 12/14. Today is 12/20 and it still has not left NJ…pretty lame…USPS customer service said they would call me back but of course never do

  7. I’ve got several packages sitting at Greensboro USPS since December 4th. Don’t know if going over there will make any difference. I’m sure they would’nt go to the trouble of trying to find them
for me. Don’t know what to do except wait. Very frustrating.

  8. I mailed my 2 packages on 12/10/20, from Sparta post office and was informed that it took 4 days to get it to the Greensboro Post office and there it sits even today. Why? These were PRIORITY packages. I spent a total of $26 to mail these ON TIME. I will be going to the Sparta post office to see about getting my money back. Actually, with insurance it’s a total of $176.00 This is infuriating! If people were told the TRUTH we would have gone to FedEx or UPS.

  9. I sent 2 packages on December 10, 2020 priority and was assured that they would be delivered by December 14 at the LATEST. Well, no they were not, they’re stuck in Greensboro. Lord only knows when they will finally arrive at their destination. I mailed EARLY so that my packages would arrive in time for Christmas. I spoke with customer service and was told it was due to COVID-19, it’s the excuse used for VERY POOR SERVICE. If only I would have been told the truth when I first mailed my packages,I would have gone to FED-Ex or UPS. I’ve Never had a problem with either one but figured since a relative works for the postal service, I used them. Next time I’ll know better-they may be higher costs but the service is faster.

  10. For those of you considering sending a package Priority Mail Express 2- Day Delivery, I paid $235 December 9th for a “guaranteed” delivery on Friday, December 11th at 3:00 pm. Had USPS known the package would not arrive, “why sell a service they knowingly could not provide ?” Todays date is December 17th and still the package has not been delivered. Tracking updates have been sketchy and no one has been able to tell me if the package has left South Carolina, arrived at a distribution center in Texas or is somewhere in between. There are “loop holes” in USPS’s refund policy in the event of a failed 2 day delivery and two of them are; in lieu of situations beyond their control and “an act of God” [I am serious, it is in the fine print of their website.] So things such as the volume of packages received due to the holidays and the COVID19 waive your rights to a refund. In other words, I paid $235 for a package that I may as well have sent Priority Mail for $20. I would like to believe that for $235, my Express Mail Package is still going to receive some sort of VIP delivery though eight days later I am still twiddling my thumbs in South Carolina, wondering “when” if ever I will receive a current tracking update. My best recommendation is UPS Air 2 Day Delivery, they were “right on time” and tracking was very up to date.

  11. In october I ordered a product from Virginia shipped but last seen on tracking at Philadelphia PA 19176 on November 11 th ” 1055 pm with delivered on the tracking sheet . The tracking number is 9405509206094761480328 and the delivery address on the package is Pauline White 6 Acacia Close South Bowenfels 2790 NSW Australia I do hope you can help receive the package.

  12. I have a dozen packages stuck in Memphis TN for 2 weeks. Customer service is almost non-existent. The postal system gets paid whether they deliver there service or not, you will never receive a refund for your postage paid.

  13. We are experiencing the same issues in St. Louis, MO. I depend on the USPS to deliver my incoming inventory and outgoing sales. At the time of this comment, I have 3 parcels stuck in “In transit, arriving late” tracking limbo and 2 package search cases opened. The Post Office is typically VERY reliable, but right now I’m questioning my choice of shipper.

  14. I shipped a Christmas gift to my Aunt & Uncle November 27 & we’re at December 7th today with tracking still showing it’s in the Greensboro, NC USPS Distribution Center, where it’s been since the day after I mailed it. No updates, no excuses, other than “in transit to the next facility”. What next facility – you mean the mailman??? This is ridiculous. It was mailed from a location less than 30 mins. away. I could have walked it there faster!
