WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Residents in a West Des Moines neighborhood voiced concerns Monday after a dog attack stopped their mail service.
The city said it is doing everything possible to get door-to-door mail delivery back, but another victim and her neighbors said it is not enough.
Erin Sears was visiting her mother on 9th Street in West Des Moines when she was bitten by a neighbor’s dog in June.
She said she was carrying a car seat to the curb to be thrown away when the dog attacked.
“Their pit bull came flying out of the door, pinned (me) up against the side of my mom’s house and bit my left elbow,” Sears said.
After an investigation, West Des Moines officials decided the dog had been provoked and was not vicious.
In September, that same dog attacked a mail carrier and since then, the United States Postal Service has refused to deliver mail to the neighborhood. KCCI

The Pit Bull is responsible for the most fatal attacks in the U.S. by far, killing 284 people over the last 13-year period – 66 percent of total fatalities. That’s despite the breed accounting for just 6.5% of the total U.S. dog population.
Pit bulls should be outlawed in the city limits.. if the city allows this horrendous acts to continue they should be culpable alongside the owner… Every pit in the city should be identified.. every owner should be required to have a minimum of 100 k insurance to own one.. the only popular breed with bone-crushing power. Wake up ignorant people..
