USPS News Link – 10/28/19 – The Postal Service has added an electronic signature service to Informed Delivery that removes the need for customers to physically sign for eligible deliveries requiring a signature.
The USPS Electronic Signature Online service allows Informed Delivery customers to use an electronic signature to sign for Priority Mail Express, Signature Confirmation and items insured for $500 or more.
The service, which was added Oct. 7, is only available for Informed Delivery customers.
Here’s how USPS Electronic Signature Online works:
- Customers will be presented with the option to sign up for Electronic Signature Online within the Informed Delivery application.
- Tracking numbers for eligible eSignature mailpieces will appear on the customer’s Informed Delivery “Packages” dashboard.
- Once the eSignature is applied, a USPS carrier’s handheld device will receive an alert. The carrier must confirm the address and deliver the mailpiece without obtaining a physical signature.
The addition of USPS Electronic Signature Online to Informed Delivery is part of the Postal Service’s efforts to improve efficiency and customer service and reduce failed delivery attempts.
In fiscal 2018 (Oct. 1, 2017-Sept. 30, 2018), there were approximately 253 million failed first delivery attempts that inconvenienced customers and delayed delivery.

I’ve never been able to get it to work–it always gives am error when I try to apply my eSOL to an incoming Signature Confirmation mailpiece. Multiple requests to USPS help have been useless. I’ve read the sender can request a physical signature; if true, why doesn’t the website just reply with that when I try to apply an eSOL?
signature is not being done since covid-19, it is very important that mail carrier gets signature so I have that mail peice in my hands in stead of leaving it for anyone and everyone to steal, mess with, hide my mail order meds. I have already had one months supply disappear, even after carrier marked pkg delivered and put in locker.. no locker large enough for my meds so where is it? A neighbor said she seen pkg setting on table and then it disappears.my ins would not send a replacement, so I had to order everything again and pay over $200 even after using Rx discount. I can’t afford that. So next time I will probably have to wait a month for new supply. Without the meds I probably be dead before the next month meds arrive. I reported it to post office no results, to police no results, to higher ups @ usps again no results. A government agency with a billion dollars budget and it is operated like a mail order scam. I am very upset
