CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – A former Nora Springs postmaster has entered a guilty plea in federal court after being accused of stealing misappropriating money from the U.S. Postal Service.
Court records show DeAnn Lewman entered the plea in Federal court Friday. She’s pleading guilty to one count of false entry in exchange for 43 other counts being dropped.
Prosecutors say in 2014 and 2015, Lewman took nearly $3,000 in cash and stamps, and took nearly $3,100 meant to buy money orders.
PEN – 5/14/16 – DeAnn C. Lewman, 47, was appointed postmaster of Nora Springs, Iowa in February 2014.
Last Thursday a federal grand jury in Cedar Rapids indicted Lewman with two counts of misappropriating postal service funds and 42 counts of false record entries intended to mislead USPS officials.
The indictment alleges that while on the job between May 2014 and January 2015 Lewman took $2,988.00 in cash and stamps. The indictment further alleges that between December 2014 and January 2015 Lewman took $3,073.00 for the purchase of postal money orders.

She is not alone. Theft within the PO is epidemic. Especially time theft, among managers.
