Will Chrysler Get Stimulus Funds to Furnish USPS With Electric Vans?

As reported yesterday – Chrysler is unveiling the first four of what will be a fleet of 250 battery powered minivans for the US Postal Service. The U.S.P.S. will be using the vans for a variety of duties at locations around the country – including daily home delivery.

Today, however, blogs and news articles over the Internet are reporting that Chrysler intends to apply for a federal grant to provide the all-electric versions of their Town and Country minivans. Apparently their proposal is being made in partnership with several major utility companies, including Duke Energy and ConEd, who will provide the infrastructure needed to charge the vehicles.

Stimulus money for postal vans – good idea or another bad use of taxpayer money? You decide.

  1. I think it is a great idea for the Postal Service to move to vehicles that don’t need gas or as much gas. If that helps Chrysler then all the better. What is the problem. It will reduce costs by not having to pay for gas and worrying about what the cost of gas will be.
