Queens postal worker repeatedly dumped mail so he could get off work early on Fridays

Timothy-Valentin
September 01, 2016 – Well, here’s a new one…Queens letter carrier Timothy Valentin, 27, decides he wants to get off work early on Fridays…boss says no…so, what does Valentin do? He decides to just throw his mail into a dumpster. Yeah, that’ll work – nobody will ever know. NOT!
NY Daily news tells us…
A Queens postal worker was arrested Thursday for dumping hundreds of pieces of U.S. mail on Fridays because he had to leave work early, authorities said.
Timothy Valentin, 27, who is supposed to deliver mail in Woodside, had been the subject of complaints all summer from residents who reported they were not receiving their mail, according to a complaint filed in Brooklyn Federal Court.
A supervisor at the Woodside Post office solved the mystery on Aug. 18, discovering 759 pieces of mail from Valentin’s route discarded in a Dumpster.
Valentin confessed to federal agents that he dumped mail three or four times because he needed to “leave early on Fridays and his boss would not let him,” the complaint states. Read more

  1. I worked my Ass off for twelve years to become a physician. Yes-I am well compensated (but, working in Primary Care, not as well as most of you probably think.) We deal with a LOT of bureaucracy, and have to take recertification exams every ten years (this is Unreasonable, and did not used to be the case.) And then I read about postal workers like This Gentleman, as well as two no-account Bucks in Detroit who threw mail, respectively, in a Dumpster and a Port-a-potty. If you have a high school education and no special abilities, work at your job and be Grateful.

  2. If they tossing mail in queens he don’t wanna try working in Brooklyn at Cadmen or Van Brunt.

The issue here is as fed-up stated, the lack of being part of the solution. I am more than certain that you are one of the many in your district who raise many concerns but yet give no solution to these concerns raised. How about you become PROACTIVE in stead of being INACTIVE!, it’s imperative that you celebrate people when they do well rather than always pointing out their wrongs and putting them on blast. Timothy,I am sure was wrong! However, at some point we must sit down and take a look as to why these problems are becoming more frequent not only here but across the nation. Jc you should become a pillar in your installation. I’m sure, you know your job inside and out, but what good is it to be very educated about your craft but full of ignorance when it comes to relaying that knowledge to others. If the postal service is like a family then you must be the middle child that has a bunch of issues but don’t know how to articulate it in such a way that brings succes not only to your self but others. So in that case there will always be a level of bondage within the Postal service. Jc if u not going to be a part of the soulution “stick to your bid assignment and mind your buisness”

You have so much to say..but I’m sure you show no interest in reference to training, developing and supervising. I am sure the opportunity was presented to you because You clearly see these problems with in your installation, but would rather talk about it and humiliate instead of training and correcting “as a senior”.
Yes the actions of T.V was wrong, but truth of the matter is, these situation could be prevented if we had “experts” like “Jc” to help train or even supervise these (CCA). My opinion, if you are not part of the solution then stick to your “bid assignment” and mind your business.

  5. To Mailman:
You and I for sure know the OJI did not train this individual to deliver mail into a dumpster. Anyone can distinguish between from a dumpster and a mailbox. 759 pieces of mail! One of the instances where he signed a signature confirmation for a customer and left the item at the customer’s door, then something happened to the item. Another, he signed a cert and left the cert in the mailbox. He delivered 2 blocks (even side) of mail to one customer’s mailbox and he did the same on the opposite side (odd) to another mailbox. It was convenient for him because those 2 mailboxes were large enough to accommodate all the mail. One was being a lawyer office. Customers called and complained. He left mail in a relay box over night during his first 90 days. These were just to name a few. Mgnt. gave him a chance to start fresh at a new station. He did it to himself.

  6. We the seniors showed him how to do this job the right way. He would rather listen to his little group (CCA) and learned all the short cuts (the wrong way). It was just a matter of time. Some customers had reported him and they were watching him. It wasn’t his first time.

This is a childish tantrum exhibited by someone who “should” be an adult. It shows a complete lack of respect and lack of consideration for others and his job.

Tiffany V….I understand you want to stand by your brother but there is the main fact…your brother threw away mail that belonged to others. There really doesn’t need to be any other fact. Nothing condones that type of behavior. What he was going through in his job or personal life has nothing to do with what his duties entailed. People could’ve been waiting for something important in the mail but your brother didn’t care except for wanting/needing to leave early on a Friday. Some people receive checks in the mail to pay for bills and food. So, yeah, I get it, you don’t want to see your brother being called a POS but if that was your mail or your parent’s mail and they were waiting on something but your mailman did the same thing your brother did, guess what….you’d be calling that mailman a POS.

  8. That whole station is a problem. We get other people’s mail all the time and there are usually dozens of letters all over our mailroom just left there. I’m pretty sure this perp was on our route at some point because we complained for months.

Nice typing over the net.. smh. The whole story is not published. Don’t talk if you don’t know the facts. My brother IS NOT AND WILL NEVER BE A POS. Get that straight.

  10. Living in the neighborhood and seeing this happening doesn’t surprise because I hear many complaints about their job in Woodside because of unfair and bad management by their boss ; actually our yax dollars are the boss, and overworkin many hours making those employees go nuts. Good luck these people and employees…

  11. Although this may be a sad case, you do have fellow carriers like the person above who do make this Job hard for others. I was always taught to help others. It’s sad that we live in a world to where we would rather see the failure of others more than the success. If he did do things wrong, as a senior employee you could have helped in guiding him at his craft as a carrier. Although the OJI is responsible, us as fellow carriers can also play a role in training and developing New employees. I hate to see stories like this but also to read comments like the one above because truth is today may be his day but tomorrow may be someone else’s day. #thefactsoflife

  12. He was a POS when he started in my station. He destroyed my bid assignment. He did everything you can imagine of and the supervisor refused to fire him. So, they sent him to another station and he did the same crap at the new station. He should had never seen the 90th day with the USPS. Finally, he got caught!
