Strategy for low-activity Post Offices continues

USPS is moving forward with its strategy for low-activity Post Offices.

The effort is designed to keep open more than 13,000 of the nation’s smallest Post Offices and to make sure customers in small communities continue to have access to USPS products and services.

Earlier this month, the Postal Service’s 67 districts began the 2-year process by notifying communities about changed hours of operations at affected Post Offices and other options available to them.

Residents in these communities will receive surveys requesting preferences for options available regarding the future status of their Post Office. They also will receive letters notifying them of the date, time and location of a community meeting. The first community meetings are scheduled to begin the week of Oct. 9.

Post Offices evaluated under the strategy will remain open with new hours unless their respective community has a preference for one of the other options. If a community prefers new retail window hours, the Postal Service will not change Saturday hours. Also, access to PO Boxes will not change.
