
HOUSTON – A 53-year-old postal worker is recovering at Ben Taub Hospital after her mail truck was struck by a truck involved in a street race along Scott Street Saturday afternoon.
The family of Margarita Rodriguez told KHOU 11 News that she went through a six-hour surgery, but miraculously had no broken bones. Doctors told her family, they expect her to fully recover.
On Saturday, operations at the Hilltop Tire Company on Scott Street came to a screeching halt.
“Out of nowhere I hear an ‘eeehhhhh’ and I look up and she was flying across the road and it was real scary. Like stuff off of Grand Theft Auto,” said Jerrius Hawkins, tire shop employee and witness to the accident.
Rodriguez had been driving the same route for the last 16 years, and had become a fixture around the community.
She had just left the tire shop and surveillance video shows the moments before the accident as she crossed Scott Street. Read more
