Video: Chattanooga Woman Fighting For Wheelchair Access At Downtown Post Office Building

A woman says she feels degraded after an incident in downtown Chattanooga.

Jean-Marie Lawrence uses a wheelchair and says it was impossible for her to access the post office in the Joel W. Solomon Federal Building, which also houses the US Courthouse.

She could not access the front of the building in her wheelchair because there were only stairs, and there was no signage indicating where she could find a ramp.

Eventually she was directed to the back of the building to an employees-only service entrance with what she believes was an exceedingly steep ramp.

“The ‘accessible’ entrance is a service ramp. This is 2015. Nobody should have to access a publicly available service through a rear service entrance,” Lawrence told NewsChannel 9. Read more
