Postal employee charged with delay of newspapers by a postal employee

June 10, 2010

Steven M. Dettelbach, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, today announced that an information was filed charging Tim Prioleau, age 47, of Cleveland, Ohio, with delay of newspapers by a postal employee.

The information charges that on January 13, 2010, Prioleau, a city letter carrier assigned to the Newburg Post Office, Cleveland, Ohio, delayed newspapers which had come into his possession to be conveyed by mail.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregory C. Sassé following an investigation by the United States Postal Service Office of Inspector General.

If convicted, the defendant’s sentence will be determined by the Court after a review of factors unique to the case, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, the defendant’s role in the offense, and the characteristics of the violation. In all cases the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and in most cases it will be less than the maximum.

An information is a charge filed by the U.S. Attorney and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
