‘The right thing to do’
Carrier helps police catch burglars
June 18, 2014 –
Euclid, OH, Letter Carrier Linda Spencer was on her route when she noticed two young men kept appearing on the streets where she was delivering.
“I saw them walking up a hill and then nearly ran into one of them coming from behind a house. The next thing I knew, they were both at the front door of another house,” Spencer said.
She called her supervisor, who immediately called the police. When officers entered the house where Spencer last noticed the young men, they discovered it had been burglarized.
The thieves were caught when the police found them pushing a large recycling bin containing a stolen flat-screen television.
Coincidentally, the burglarized home and stolen television belong to Dolores King, a 30-year postal employee who works as a parcel post distribution-machine clerk at the Cleveland Processing and Distribution Center. “You hear about stuff like this happening, but you never think it’s going to be you. I really appreciate what Linda did,” King said.
Said Spencer: “I wasn’t afraid of reporting those thieves. It broke my heart to think about hard-working people coming home and feeling violated. Being the eyes and ears of the community is just the right thing to do.”
