Postal workers afraid to work, say they aren’t provided protection during COVID-19

AUSTIN (KXAN) — US Postal Service workers say they lack supplies and can’t protect themselves during the COVID-19 outbreak.

“There is no precautions taken to separate the public from the worker inside the post office,” says a tipster to KXAN News. “The grocery stores are providing clear shields for its clerks but not the US Post Office.”

KXAN has heard from several postal employees worried about their safety and health. They say the Postal Service has been slow to provide workers with protective gear.

“They want us to disinfect our vehicles every day, but they don’t give us no supplies to disinfect our vehicle. They want us to buy hand sanitizer. Shouldn’t that be the responsibility of the company?” wrote in one frustrated USPS worker to KXAN.

The Postal Service says millions of masks, gloves and cleaning and sanitizing products are available and distributed to more than 30,000 locations every day. More at KXAN

  1. I’ve worked for the USPS for 32 years. I don’t feel, they are protecting their workers. I’ve become disappointed and disillusioned with their treatment of their workers. I don’t feel comfortable working for a company, who has no concern or compassion for anyone. I will probably retire at the first of the year 2021. The only thing that will fix the post office is a complete change in upper management. None of those people have an ounce of common sense or compassion. The USPS has become a sad & pathetic mess. There’s zero consistency in how they run things. It’s too bad. It was a good job, my first 20 years of employment. Not so much, anymore.

  2. Management across the country bought up nail salon masks and called them ‘protection’ for simpleton postal employees to put on and carry on with their work exposed to everything that comes across the USPS handling of a billion pieces of international mail a day amidst a Global Pandemic where everyone else is told to where specific eye, ear and nose protection. Good luck to your families in proving you got COVID-19 from the USPS when even the NALC has backed the USPS code of silence on which offices have had infected individuals who do not leave until well into their symptoms.
