MEMPHIS, TN (WMC) –
12/03/16 – The United States Postal Service said a postal carrier robbed at gunpoint in Memphis on Friday. Investigators believe the two crimes were done by the same man.
The postal carrier was delivering mail in the 600 block of Craft Road Street when she was robbed. It was her second stop on that street in South Memphis when the armed thief pulled up behind her.
“They pulled up behind her like it wasn’t no problem, like they were coming up to stop her for so they could get a package or drop off a package,” one witness said.
The neighbor, who did not want to be identified, watched the robbery happen as he hung his Christmas decorations near his window. He said the woman’s mail truck was parked a few feet away from a dead end. That unfortunately left her trapped.
“She was basically an easy target,” the witness said. “To me, it seemed like they were following, and following up behind.”
The man said he saw the armed thief jump from his car, force the postal worker to the floor of her truck, and then make multiple trips unloading packages.
“With people sending stuff out in the mail, ain’t no telling what they sent and they thinking they sending them through the mail everything will be safe,” the witness said. “But, not knowing that these postal workers really catching trouble around this time of year.”
The robber is described as a black male, 18-20 years old, 5’7”, and weighs between 130-140 pounds. He has dreads and was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, armed with a semi automatic handgun. More
