FARGO, ND –  A U.S. Postal Service manager in Fargo is accused of stealing $700 in cash from a bank deposit envelope accidentally dropped into a mail collection box.

Andrea Marie Eberhardt, distribution operations manager at the downtown Fargo post office, was charged Monday in Cass County District Court with felony theft.

On Dec. 9, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service received a report that a local customer mistakenly put a Wells Fargo deposit envelope that held $700 into a mail collection box. A postal employee found the envelope and gave it to Eberhardt, according to an investigation report.

On Dec. 10, postal inspectors interviewed Eberhardt, and she admitted she stole the envelope and the money inside, saying she still had $500 of the cash in her truck, the report stated. Read more
