Open season enrollment period begins next month

Open and online

Open season — the annual period when Postal Service employees can make changes to their health, dental and vision coverage or choose a new plan — begins Nov. 9.

This year, employees will find the information they’ll need on the open season site on LiteBlue.

This includes information about the new Self Plus One option, open season dates, answers to frequently asked questions, videos and a link to an Office of Personnel Management tool that allows you to compare available options.

LiteBlue also offers information on Flexible Spending Accounts, the Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program and the USPS Health Benefits Plan.

PEN: Below is information, furnished by USPS, regarding the new Self Plus One option.

How is Self Plus One different from Self Only or Self and Family?Couple

Self Only covers only you (the enrollee). Self and Family covers you and two or more eligible family member that you designate to be covered. Self Plus One covers you and one eligible family member that you designate to be covered.

Who is eligible to be covered under Self Plus One?

  • Spouse
  • A child up to the age of 26
  • A child over the age of 26 who is incapable of self-support because of a mental or physical disability that existed before the age of 26

What is the benefit of switching to Self Plus One? How will I know if I should make the change?Mom and baby

It is likely that Self Plus One will be the lower cost option compared to Self and Family if you only have one family member to put on your insurance.

What do I need to do if I would like to change my enrollment type?

If you want to make the change, you must first enter your new selection into PostalEASE (online, at a kiosk, or through paper application).  You will then need to re-enter your eligible family member into the system because his or her data will not automatically transition over.

When can I make the change and when will it go into effect?

You can switch to Self Plus One during this year’s Open Season, which will take place from November 9 – December 14, 2015.  The enrollment change will  be effective on January 9, 2016.

For additional information, please visit the OPM website to learn more about Self Plus One.

  1. NOTE: the plan information on the OPM site is still for 2015. THE 2016 PLAN INFORMATION IS NOT YET AVAILABLE – but the site does not make this obvious. Make sure you are looking at 2016 data before making decisions!!!!
