NALC: Senate introduces misguided postal bill

3-NALC News Small

Late on Thursday [08-01-2013], the leaders of the Senate Homeland and Government Affairs Committee, Sens. Tom Carper (D-DE) and Tom Coburn (R-OK), introduced a postal reform bill, S. 1486. The NALC is reviewing the text of it in detail now, but at first glance we find that there are major problems with this proposed bill. We will post a more formal review of the bill in the coming days. (Congress is in recess through Sept. 9.)

  1. I’m flabbergasted by what is being proposed with this reform!
Not everyone has a computer, or trusts them, when it comes to paying bills so they mail their checks.
Not everyone drives, so they count on door-to-door delivery/pick-up to keep in contact with family & receive medications.
Not even close to everyone wants to see their mail carrier, post office employees, & their families be without the income that keeps did on the table!
There’s the problem, & it’s so obvious! The government doesn’t care about those that are inconvenienced by their ideas!
I need to express my gratitude to the men & women of the USPS for what they have done. Not only do you bring our mail & packages, you also are the glue that keeps people connected & have no doubt saved lives when you have seen something amiss at a customer’s home. Nothing can replace that!
