Inspectors testify at murder trial

A jury in Florida has found Pikerson Mentor guilty on 14 counts filed against him in the homicide of Miami Letter Carrier Bruce Parton. Postal Inspectors who arrested Mentor and an alleged accomplice in May 2011 provided testimony at the trial.

Parton was delivering mail in December 2010 when Mentor shot him and stole his arrow key. The key was used to steal mail that included financial information Mentor and others used to file fraudulent tax returns.

Charges filed against Mentor included murder of a federal employee, possession of a firearm in a crime of violence, wrongful possession of a postal key and aggravated identity theft.

Postal Inspectors investigate every act of violence or threatened violence against USPS employees. The Inspection Service cautions all employees to watch for suspicious activity and call 911 immediately if there is cause for concern.
