  1. I needed open heart surgery, Sanford Heart Center Fargo North Dakota cant do this surgery because I don’t have enough lung volume. I ran the sorting machine for years. POSTAL DUST AND OSHA 2014 FINE FOR EXCESSIVE asbestos in the air at this office. I was always having lung infections, 2007 USPS let me go medical retirement because I was always sick I have not been sick once since leaving Bemidji Post Offices, but my lungs just don’t work now, OSHA fined 56601 Bemidji Post Office in 2014 for excessive asbestos in work area. More of Bemidji Mn employees have passed away, This office needs to be investigated as to many of us are sick and dying. I am on oxygen now.

  2. I have to be fair to Bendix above my father loved this company ALL gauges were hand painted by ALL companies that made them, it was a war effort. This does not end the damage done to the painters just a sad fact of war Same happened to people who made atomic bombs radiation poisoning a new illness Please post!

  3. Bemidji Post Office built in 1984 did not have a working air exchanger ,asbestos in the flooring. Why ? Office was new aren’t there federal guidelines? Yes there are but the New Bemidji Post Office was leased from a Private contractor , no need for a federal inspection its not a federal building. So slick save money by not meeting all those hard guidelines set fourth for a Federal owned building. The hell with those that work for us put them out on a medical retirement or hope they die first or soon after. Postal workers are easy to replace, just put a sign in front of the Post Office HELP WANTED. First Class mail pouches where asbestos cloth when USPS pulled them did they let all Postal workers know why ? Did they do a complete clean up of the office, the heating and air conditioning systems, air exchangers? Did anyone ever see Asbestos abatement crews after the first class pouches were pulled? How many Post Offices affected,? all of them. How many other branches of Federal government rent their building to avoid tough Federal guidelines? One worker in Bemidji had a daughter born with birth defects , another all children born with birth defects. We need to start asking WHY. My father Lawrence J. Geist talked about the un sung HEROs of ww2 he worked with at Bendix Aviation ,these girls painted the aircraft gauges with Radioactive paint they twisted the brush between their fingers and lips to get that perfect tip for painting. You can well imagine the results. Loss of teeth gums skin lips birth defects, anyone ever heard of this before? Maybe are government didn’t know the ill effects then but asbestos health issues where first written about in the 1880s in England . THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR ASBESTOS IN ARE WORK PLACE. How much asbestos is in are postal dust? I have kidney and liver decease ulcerative colitis, skin problems. cant walk to my car without having to catch my breathe after I get in it, bad heart valve, arthritis, nervous system disorders, hyper tension, depression/ severe. I have had two tumors removed from my neck in 1999 one was left to avoid to much damage to my neck muscles , total of three, put on methotrexate lost most of my teeth from that cancer medication. Spent five hours having tumors and my thyroid removed in 2016. Constant cough , so bad October 2016 the coughing broke my rib had to have the blood vacuum pumped from ribs or loose use of right lung. OPM said I owe them $ 55,000 overpayment of Disability Retirement I am 64 in poor health and they have the BALLS to say I owe them $561.00 for the next 98 months . Have a happy retirement Larry, thank you Postal Service. Need to put into effect a disability like the VA has 10% up to 100% so it really hurts if they do damage to our health and welfare!

  4. I filed a complaint on the first class mail pouches being made of asbestos at the Bemidji mn post office these pouches used nation wide since the civil war. by 2004 they were pulled 2007 postal service put me out on medical retirement, I have liver kidney lung heart hypertension skin decease etc . 2014 osha said Bemidji post office had serious asbestos problem in this office check how many postal workers have died in this office that was new in 1984 but asbestos is there, most have gotten sick well before retirement age, are now dead. the air exchanger never worked since 1984 new system put in in around 2004 I have been placing this on internet last week opm sent letter I owe over 55000 in overpaid disability annuity anyone find this odd? this office has high speed sorting machine et cleaned machine with air hose! I pissed of management when I worked at usps I think they are pissed at me again, cant keep my mouth shut. problem I cant do a short set of stairs without gasping for air why, who protects my rights? check how many are dead that worked in this office since 1984, check how many are sick. this office had a non working air exchanger 1984 to 2004 think about that.a POSTAL WORKERS life has no value to management.

  5. I have been employed by the Postal service for 31 years and after being employed here for 14 years I was diagnosed with Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Diease and I am currently still taking medication for it. The black dust particles that constatntly comes from somewhere up n here plays a part. Some days my breathing is so loud my co-workers ask are you ok.

  6. It is a shame, but this action will probably just give Congress more amunition to close down the post office. “Green is Better” routine. Kill the trees for paper, and they will kill you, mentality. Ugh.
The bottom line is the Post Office, morover the Government, doesn’t care about the welfare of thier workers that make them money, and keep this country in touch with each other. I have just learned that recently, sitting here waiting for care that I probably will never recieve for my injury.
They will find out without us worker bees, they will have nothing in the end.

  7. Mark Comerford is correct…the USPS only cares about making their phony numbers and their subsequent bogus bonuses. It’s all a sham, and thus a shame.

  8. All too true I’m afraid. If you leave a glass of water or any open cup of any kind in your work area, you will find that, within minutes it has a film of dirt covering the liquid. Imagine what this will do your lungs over time. Spending 3 to 4 hours a day breathing the overwhelming amount of dirt into your lungs is tantamount to being poisoned and/or having your life span shortened.
The Post Office has recsived numerous complaints from facilities that have high speed machinery running concerning the “dust” in the air nad has done little or nothing to mitigate this.
Certainly, they are, and have always been, less concerned about their employees than their plans. You would think that any reasonable company would be examining future plans to see how their employees are affected.
Not the Post Office! Even after the trerrible shootings in Michigan and California, even after the Post Office signed up as partners in the historic “Violence in the Workplace” agreement, that stated zero tolerance for workplace violence, the Post Office took the union to arbitration saying that it didn’t apply to management.
Apparently, it is acceptable for managers to assault employees, but not for employees to assault managers.
This is the state of the Service. The Post Office has forgotten what their “raison d’etre” is all about.
