Former Secretary Treasurer of APWU Local 190 (located in Clifton, NJ), Pleads Guilty

On November 3, 2010, in the United States District Court of New Jersey, John McGovern, former Secretary Treasurer of American Postal Workers Union (APWU) Local 190 (located in Clifton, NJ), pled guilty to violations of 29 U.S.C. 501(c) and 18 U.S.C. 371.

McGovern admitted that he conspired with former Local 190 President Gary Weightman to embezzle between $120,000 and $200,000 in union funds. Weightman, as a result of a plea agreement, has already pled guilty to criminal tax evasion and is awaiting sentencing. The guilty plea follows an investigation by the OLMS New York District Office, in conjunction with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and with the aid of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
