Sentencing today for former postal employee charged with stealing Best Buy rewards certificates

FORMER POSTAL EMPLOYEE ENTERS A PLEA OF GUILTY TO THEFT OF MAIL
– Former postal employee charged with stealing Best Buy rewards certificates

Louisville, KY – United States Attorney Candace G. Hill of the Western District of Kentucky announced today that Alice Hill-Murrell, age 44, of Louisville, Kentucky, in Jefferson County, pled guilty to charges of theft of mail matter.

The Indictment alleged that between October 2006 through November of 2008, Hill-Murrell rifled through the mail and stole Best Buy Rewards Zones cards from mail letters, cards and packages. Investigators were able to link Hill-Murrell to approximately 68 certificates which belonged to other customers.

The maximum potential penalties are 15 years’ imprisonment, a $500,000 fine, and supervised release for a period of up to 3 years.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lettricea Jefferson-Webb, and it was investigated by the United States Postal Service, Office of the Inspector General, Louisville Metro Police Department and the United States Secret Service.

Hill-Murrell is scheduled to appear for sentencing before the United States District Court Chief Judge Thomas B. Russell on May 17, 2010, at 11:45 a.m., in Louisville, Kentucky.

  2. Another day, another USPS employee arrested. I hope this lummox gets locked up for a few years.
