MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX- A U.S. Postal Service employee has been arrested after an investigation revealed she allegedly stole and altered a check worth nearly $44,000 that had been mailed by the City of Woodbranch Village.
According to the Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, a city official reported the theft in July 2024 after discovering that the check, originally issued to a construction contractor for a city project, had been stolen in transit, altered, and deposited into an unauthorized account.
The case was assigned to the Precinct 4 Criminal Investigations Division, where detectives conducted a months-long investigation that ultimately identified Bridgette Ragland, 40, of Houston, as the suspect. Ragland, who is employed by the United States Postal Service, was accused of stealing the check while it was in the mail system.
Investigators obtained a warrant for Ragland’s arrest on a charge of Theft (Third-Degree Felony). On the morning of October 9, 2025, members of the Precinct 4 Warrant Division and Criminal Investigations Division located Ragland at her workplace — a post office in northwest Houston — and took her into custody without incident.
The Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office credited the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General for assisting with the investigation and apprehension.
“Our investigators worked hard on this case, making sure the suspect was held accountable for stealing from a local municipality,” Constable Rowdy Hayden said. “We appreciate the assistance of the Postal Service’s Office of Inspector General and their cooperation throughout this investigation.”
Thanks largely to DEI initiatives, this is what the USPS has come to. Non existent to weak background checks and no meaningful drug screens coupled with radical labor employees have eroded confidence in the safety of the mail. It used to be that the biggest transgression was taking a UBBM coupon; now the service is full of predators in every craft scouring the mail looking to steal, further driving volume down. The non career model has killed the post office.
