Video: Glen Falls, NY carrier saves, mother, son from falling tree

QUEENSBURY — A Glens Falls area letter carrier is being credited with saving the lives of two motorists who, witnesses say, narrowly missed being crushed by a falling tree limb — thanks to him.

On his 30th anniversary on the job, Glens Falls resident John Richichi said he heard cracking while delivering mail on Garrison Road on Tuesday.

He said he paused and tried to locate the unusual sound.

Seconds later, he realized the continued cracking sound was coming from a tree right next to him. He scooted forward into the middle of the road and stopped a car just as the huge limb dropped into the road.

“I give him credit for saving the lives of two people. That car would have been crushed because that limb would have been right over them,” said Garrison Road resident Robert Bruno, brother of former state Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno, who was outside in his 15 Garrison Road yard with his gardener when the “2-foot wide” limb dropped. “He’ll remember that day.” Read more – Video courtesy of WYNT
