USPS could earn millions from marketing campaign

A recent marketing campaign launched by Global Business to encourage commercial customers to do more international shipping has paid off.

In early April, USPS began sending direct mail postcards and email blasts featuring Al — the Postal Service’s iconic letter carrier. The postcards urged customers to request a free international shipping kit.

Current figures show the promotion so far has resulted in almost 5,000 sales leads — more than $8.2 million in new revenue opportunities.

“We’re getting the word out to U.S. businesses that the Postal Service is more than just a domestic shipper,” said International Strategy and Business Development Support Executive Director Franca Davis. “There’s a whole world of opportunity out there and we want to be the shipper they choose.”

Each free shipping kit includes a Global Express Guaranteed legal-sized envelope, six Express Mail International Flat Rate Boxes and the USPS International Shipping Folder and Pricing Sheet.

Global Business activities fall under the corporate “Global Growth initiative” — part of the Delivering Results, Innovation, Value and Efficiency (DRIVE) program.
