PEN: The following is contained within President Obama’s 2013 Budget Proposal.
Provide Postal Service Financial Relief and Undertake Reform
The Administration recognizes the enormous value of the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) to the Nation’s commerce and communications, as well as the urgent need for reform to ensure its future viability. USPS faces long-term, structural operating challenges that have been exacerbated by the precipitous drop in mail volume in the last few years due to the economic crisis and the continuing shift toward electronic communication. Bold action is needed to ensure that USPS can continue to operate in the short-run and achieve viability in the longrun. To that end, the President is proposing a comprehensive reform package that would:
1) restructure Retiree Health Benefit pre-funding in order to accelerate moving these Postal payments to an accruing cost basis and reduce near-year Postal payments;
2) provide USPS with a refund over two years of the $10.9 billion positive credit balance in Postal contributions to the FERS program;
3) reduce USPS operating costs by giving USPS authority, which it has said it will exercise, to reduce mail delivery from six days to five days starting in 2013;
4) allow USPS to increase collaboration with State and local governments; and
5) give USPS the ability to better align the costs of postage with the costs of mail delivery while still operating within the current price cap, and permit USPS to seek the balance of the modest one-time increase in postage rates it proposed in 2010. These reforms would provide USPS with over $25 billion in cash relief over the next two years and in total would produce savings of $25 billion over 11 years.

Ladies and gentalman, I am a TE and I saw regulars and PTF’s in this proposal but nothing about my little group of the post office. We have a dream of just being a career employee! What is in this for us? Most of you probably have TE’s in your office since they have decided not to hire career employees anymore. I pray that we have a chance for something positive too. We have 22 routes in our office and only 13 of those routes have regulars. We have no PTF’s and 3 T6’s. Now tell me who the post office is leaning on to get the job done with no benefits and a 6 day work week. I think we have paid our dues! The union ask us for our money and then tell us there is nothing we can do for you. It is a hard pill to swallow to give someone 700.00 a year just because. I have and will continue to give 100% to my job for my family and the customers I serve. I am also proud to wear the uniform everyday. I just want to be part of the family too!
Do any of you seriously think it will matter to all the P&DC centers which liar gets elected President? Those of us slated to close will close no matter what because Congress AND the President sat on their collective butts and did NOTHING to stop it!!! Our illustrious APPOINTED Postmaster General can’t appease the Board of Governors fast enough to dismantle the postal network so that we will collectively FAIL to deliver the mail in a reasonable length of time. By the time the public figures out their bills are being delivered late, collected late and they’re being hit left and right with penalties and can’t even get into a Post Office (unless it’s inside a freaking Wal-Mart!!! WTG “Village Post Offices” run by a Communist Sympathizing Mega-Corporation) because the hours have been reduced to only being open between 3-4 AM as our PG wants, it’ll be far too late. The machines are being removed from processing centers as fast as they can toss them into the land-fills so they can’t re-open them when the public finally realizes (no thanks to CNN and others who refuse to even carry the story) they’ve been duped and screwed over by a factor of 1000.
Don’t you find it odd that other than the health care pre-funding $5 billion payment that we were in the green during the worst years of the recession and now that packages and 3rd class mail is up, we are losing a magically increasing amount each year to the attune of $15 BILLION all the sudden? Sorry, but that either proves someone is doing “creative accounting” to make us look bad OR their consolidations and other efforts have REDUCED business to the point where it’s costing us $10 BILLION more in 2012 than it did in 2008 at the bottom.
But magically e-mail has somehow just now killed the Post Office 1st class mail even though in 2006, our overall mail volume was at its highest point in all of US History. Gee. I think the Internet and E-mail was around in 2006!!! What kind of FOOLS do they take us for??? It’s blatantly obvious they are cooking the books and purposely trying to destroy the USPS! I guess the “fools” are the ones on here seriously talking about Romney and Obama like they have ANYTHING to do with the problem here that has been caused by Congress, The Postal Board of Governors, Daryl Issa and our own Postmaster General who goes along with it all like some kind of puppy dog looking for attention instead of standing up for the people he’s supposed to be serving!
No, it’s too late for those of us that work in smaller cities around the nation. We’ll be forced to sell our homes in a horrible market (i.e. losing our shirts), uproot our families and move to some other location that they will then probably close also in a few years when some private company takes over (i.e. I’ve already been excessed once already in the past 6 years and this will be YET AGAIN). I believe there’s a nice place in HELL for all the scum bags that took oaths of public office and then served themselves instead of their constituents. And I don’t exactly see the Postmaster General volunteering to move to a city of someone else’s choosing either. It’s always easier to dish it out when you’re on top than live by the same garbage your dole out to others.
And oh yes, consolidating is going to save SO MUCH MONEY when gas has been averaging $4 a gallon and the mail has to be transported MUCH MUCH FURTHER when there are less processing centers (not to mention the DELAY) and most of the employees are simply shuffled around (i.e. no savings what-so-ever; the costs will actually INCREASE and service standards will DECLINE. And all the BS accounting LIES in the world won’t change that (e.g. our PD&F ‘fact sheet’ showed savings equal to all employees being fired, all power being shut off (even though the building itself will still stay open for window sales and storage), not moved somewhere else when they showed it to our community. We called BS and they said to take it up with someone else as they didn’t have the data in front of them. LIES LIES LIES.
Expect even more if Romney gets in there. Notice how he’s for the Auto Industry now even though he said to let them go bankrupt before. That’s the integrity some of you want to elect. Enjoy the results when Communist China OWNS this country completely. Too bad some of you can’t see beyond the brainwashing tactics of people like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck.
Apparently, Goebels was right. Say a lie often enough and people will start to believe it. Yes, we are your friend! Yes, we are good Christians! Yes, we are for the Middle Class! Yes, we are for American Jobs and not just the CEO type ones…. Sure, you can trust us! We’re everyone’s friends, not just our own! We won’t send your job to China or India! We want to give you a tax break! We want to eliminate taxes entirely! Yet we will somehow magically balance the budget with no taxes and increase military spending so we can start more wars in the Middle East! No, we’re not lying hypocritical scum bags! We’re your friend! We’re the Republican Party! (This message paid for by the Fortune 500 line of companies)
CoalJobsForMinors – I agree – lies come from both sides – republicans and democrats. Most say that’s just politics…but I say, it’s our future and our childrens future. So, look at where you are…are you better off now than in 2008? If you believe you are then you know how you should vote – if you believe you’re not better off then vote for change…it’s that simple. Either way…VOTE! Rick Owens – PEN
I can see why this person (Really) is for Romney. He must be a doctor since he is just worried about them going out of business. Chris-In NC is undoubtly not a union person.Speaking of morons I guess people have forgotten about Mr Bush. Romney says deficit is 16 trillion Bush had it at over 10 when he left.Obama took a economy ready to be the second great depression.He was right to spend whatever needed to stop the downfall.If Romney wins he will follow thru with obama plan to stop war and take cost and start paying down deficit and say he was responseable for paying it down .Mitt Romney is a good businessman but not a president.George Bush had 8yrs at the end gas was 4-5 dollars a gallon a ten trillion dollar deficit,economy falling at alarming rates.and 2 wars still in progress but he still got his 8 yrs.Romney is a liar and he is the moron.
This Chris seems like a real brain. Lets go back to exactly as it was 4 years ago, October of ’08, when you claim we were better off. Better yet, why don’t just you do it. Maybe you and nurse J can can form a duo. Remember when you were gauking over Sarah Palin? There was a real intelect, someone you can connect with. On November 7, maybe consider moving to another country, like China. Romney created plenty of our jobs over there. If you do not like $4 gas prices, move to Europe, where it is about $7. Get ready, this guy has 4 more years coming. Get over it. Happy, Pappy?
I’m really sick of all these left wing retards that just don’t get it. This guy that we call the president has no clue what he’s doing. He’s never run a business or even had a job for that matter other than being a community agitator in Chicago. It’s time to get rid of this moron and start getting on the right track. Do you really think we’re better off than 4 years ago? We’ve reached the debt ceiling with this idiot who has brought us 6 trillion more debt in 4 years. No one can find a job, gas is right at 4 dollars a gallon and many other problems that he has made worse and he continues his on the job training. I WISH HE WOULD JUST JUMP OFF A CLIFF AND DO US ALL A FAVOR. Wait, he can’t do that because then we would have to deal with another idiot, Biden…..
If we, the citizens of the US, re elect this incompetent man as our president we will get what we have asked for — incompetence!
If you are ready to retire please do. Save someone else s job! If you can not see where this administration has gone wrong than I guess you have everything you want. I see my primary care doctor struggling to live up to new federal regulations and many more regular doctors closing their practice. I see the federal government trying to control every aspect of our lives. Thanks for the payroll tax cut, that should more than cover our extra expense at 5$ a gallon. I see the APWU asking workers to stand up and where are they exactly, with the UAW. Letting workers lose their jobs, benefits, pension so the company can make 7 billion dollars in profit. WAKE UP!

OBAMA IS CORRECT……
Waco (or is it whacko?), exactly what freedoms or liberties have you lost since obama has been in office? NONE, that’s how many! The only ones in D.C. stripping americans of freedoms/liberties are the mysoginistic GOPs in congress.
Here ya go, Waco. Have another glass of this Kool-Aid…stop listening to the real nut jobs on AM radio.
Obama will destroy the post office just like he is destroying our great nation. Never before have we witnessed such blatant disregard for our freedom and liberty. We are witnessing a calculated assault on all things American.we must vote this man out of office and send him back to whatever burg he sprang from.
Did you say Rural Carrier and work in same sentence….oxymoran!
Obama just won my vote.
Please do something soon! I work as a rural carrier and wonder what would happen to unemployment figures if postal service goes under. Not only affecting postal employees, but trucking companies, etc. that supply service to postal operations . The postal service going out of business would devastate the economy.
