USPS Service lets customers redirect packages

Delivering assurances

USPS now offers Delivery Instructions, a service that allows customers to redirect their incoming packages to an alternate address or hold them for pickup at a Post Office.

Customers also can select a desired location for carriers to leave their packages, such as a front door or back door, a garage or porch, or a neighbor’s address.

“The ability to leave a package with a trusted proxy until you can get there really provides an extra layer of security for customers,” said New Products and Innovation VP Gary Reblin.

The service also eliminates the need to schedule a re-delivery and reduces the number of failed delivery attempts.

Delivery Instructions is part of the Postal Service’s efforts to grow its package business. More information is available through My USPS.com.

  1. It doesn’t work, I’ve tried it numerous times. They still put it in the locker. Most recently they locked my package in the locker for the weekend and didn’t leave the key in my box, I was notified of its delivery but can’t receive it. I would really like for them to leave (just) packages at my door, but no matter how many times I’ve left these instructions, they don’t do it. Is there a waiver I need to sign or something?

Michelle – your best bet – contact the delivery supervisor of the postal station or post office that delivers your mail. PEN

  2. Make sure of your delivery instructions before you specify them online, because once you add delivery instructions for a package, you can’t change it.

Hello – you’re posting to the wrong company…our site is only a news site for postal employees, retirees, etc. You would need to contact the official USPS. PEN

  3. I call the local post office to intercept a package, it was placed on refused, I made a mistake on the address and now I can’t redirect the package even I talk to them with the local manager, now it can take up to 2 weeks to get it back, this is not what I expected, I was told that I will be able to do it but because the manager set it up as refused now I have to wait to get it back and then re-shipp, UPS has better options from now on I will avoid USPS as much as I can, I do not care about the cost but about the options, and USPS employees get upset and they screw you over the best they can.

  4. I already put a delivery instruction using my usps account, i have to change it again but it doesn’t work. What can i do?

Charmaine – you would need to contact the official USPS. http://www.usps.com or 1-800-Ask-USPS
