{"id":9981,"date":"2015-02-05T16:45:42","date_gmt":"2015-02-05T21:45:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=9981"},"modified":"2015-02-05T16:45:42","modified_gmt":"2015-02-05T21:45:42","slug":"ups-and-fedex-raise-surcharges","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2015\/02\/05\/ups-and-fedex-raise-surcharges\/","title":{"rendered":"UPS and FedEx raise surcharges"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Fuel runnings<\/h1>\n<h2>UPS and FedEx raise surcharges<\/h2>\n<p><time class=\"pubdate\" datetime=\"2015-02-05T20:11:00.000Z\">USPS\u00a02\/5\/15<\/time><\/p>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/liteblue.usps.gov\/news\/link\/2015\/02feb\/images\/news06s2.jpg\" alt=\"Fuel surcharges\" width=\"220\" \/><\/div>\n<h6>The Postal Service\u2019s competitors are<br \/>\nraising their fuel surcharges.<\/h6>\n<p>UPS and FedEx have increased the fees they charge customers for fuel, prompting some to take a fresh look at the Postal Service, news reports say.<\/p>\n<p>FedEx has raised its fuel charge from 5.5 percent to 6 percent, while UPS has changed how it calculates the fee for ground shipments, the public radio series \u201cMarketplace\u201d<a href=\"http:\/\/www.marketplace.org\/topics\/world\/ups-and-fedex-increase-fuel-surcharge-%E2%80%93-because-they-can\" target=\"_blank\"><em>reported<\/em><\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>this week.<\/p>\n<p>According to the trade publication<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><em>DC Velocity<\/em>, UPS\u2019s ground fuel surcharges will<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcvelocity.com\/articles\/20150202-ups-hikes-fuel-surcharges-despite-dramatic-declines-in-oil-fuel-prices\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>rise<\/em><\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>from 5 percent to 5.5 percent if diesel prices stay within a range of $2.91 to $3.05 a gallon. If prices rise, so will UPS\u2019s fee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMarketplace\u201d reported some customers are now considering the Postal Service, which doesn\u2019t charge fuel surcharges and<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/liteblue.usps.gov\/news\/link\/2014\/09sep\/news03s1.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><em>lowered<\/em><\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Priority Mail rates last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[It\u2019s] a pretty good product,\u201d shipping consult Rob Martinez said.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to hiking fuel surcharges, UPS and FedEx recently<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/liteblue.usps.gov\/news\/link\/2015\/01jan\/news05s2.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><em>raised<\/em><\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>dimensional (DIM) weight prices.
