Image:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><em>The New York Times<\/em><\/h6>\n<p>After years of decline, retailers are mailing more catalogs,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/01\/26\/business\/media\/catalogs-after-years-of-decline-are-revamped-for-changing-times.html\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The New York Times<\/em><\/a> reported last week.<\/p>\n<p>Almost 12 billion catalogs were mailed in 2013, according to industry research cited by the<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><em>Times<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Retailers see catalogs as a way to drive shoppers to their websites. Thirty-one percent of consumers have a catalog with them when they shop online.<\/p>\n<p>Some online retailers, including Bonobos, have started mailing catalogs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe found that the catalog allowed us to tell a fuller narrative about the brand and our products in a way that we were struggling to do online,\u201d said Bonobos CEO Craig Elbert.<\/p>\n<p>J.C. Penney announced plans last month to<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/liteblue.usps.gov\/news\/link\/2015\/01jan\/news29s3.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><em>resurrect<\/em><\/a>\u00a0catalogs, while Anthropologie, American Girl and other retailers are increasing mailings.<\/p>\n<p>Retailers also are using new methods to catch shoppers\u2019 attention. Example: Outdoor clothier Patagonia sent two catalogs last year centered on wildlife photography.<\/p>\n<p>Catalogs could help retailers cut through digital information overload, said Harvard Business School marketing professor Rohit Deshpande.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[J]ust getting attention is the hardest thing to do right now for brands.
