J.C. Penney resurrects its catalog<\/h2>\n

Mailboxes across the country will soon get a surprise from the past \u2014 a J.C. Penney catalog.<\/p>\n

The retailer will ship a catalog featuring home goods to select customers in March, the\u00a0<\/span>Associated Press reported<\/em><\/a>\u00a0last week. Unlike the 1,000-page \u201cbig books\u201d from years past, the new catalog will have about 120 pages.<\/p>\n

J.C. Penney discontinued its catalogs a few years ago to cut costs. The company expected customers would simply go online to shop, but it didn\u2019t turn out that way.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe lost a lot of customers,\u201d CEO Mike Ullman\u00a0<\/span>told The Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

The company learned many online shoppers had used the catalog to research products before making purchases.\u00a0<\/span>Recent surveys show<\/em><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>print mailings drive online sales.<\/p>\n

\u201cJ.C. Penney is making a big statement,\u201d retail analyst Bruce Cohen told the\u00a0<\/span>Journal<\/em>.<\/p>\n
