The APWU sought clarification of management\u2019s policy in an<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.apwu.org\/sites\/apwu\/files\/resource-files\/MVS-Medical-Signature-DOT-CDL-APWU-102314.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Oct. 23, 2014, letter<\/a>, which noted, \u201cIt seems practice varies by location.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to a<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.apwu.org\/sites\/apwu\/files\/resource-files\/MVS-Medical-Signature-DOT-CDL-USPS-Response.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Dec. 11, 2014, letter from postal management<\/a>, the USPS follows the<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fmcsa.dot.gov\/medical\/driver-medical-requirements\/national-registry-certified-medical-examiners\" target=\"_blank\">Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration\u2019s (FMCSA\u2019s) regulations<\/a>, which say that medical examiners must be certified and listed in FMCSA\u2019s database.<\/p>\n<p class=\"last\">Accordingly, a medical examiner may be \u201ca doctor of medicine (MD), doctor of osteopathy (DO), physician assistant (PA), advanced practice nurse (APN), and doctor of chiropractic (DC).\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/1aa-APWU-small.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7249\" src=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/1aa-APWU-small.gif\" alt=\"1aa-APWU-small\" width=\"295\" height=\"182\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>01\/10\/2015\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0The APWU has received clarification from the Postal Service regarding who qualifies as a \u201cmedical officer\u201d with authority to sign Department of Transportation health cards for postal employees with Commercial Driver\u2019s Licenses.
