{"id":9490,"date":"2014-12-20T11:43:53","date_gmt":"2014-12-20T16:43:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=9490"},"modified":"2014-12-20T11:43:53","modified_gmt":"2014-12-20T16:43:53","slug":"nalc-minimum-wage-increases-effective-jan-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2014\/12\/20\/nalc-minimum-wage-increases-effective-jan-1\/","title":{"rendered":"NALC: Minimum wage increases effective Jan. 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the 2014 mid-term elections, voters across the country resoundingly voted for increases in state or local minimum wages. <a href=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/3-NALC-News-Small3.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6523\" src=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/3-NALC-News-Small3.gif\" alt=\"3-NALC News Small\" width=\"254\" height=\"214\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As of New Year\u2019s Day, 29 states and the District of Columbia (as well as a number of cities and smaller municipalities) will have minimum wages above the federal minimum of $7.25 an hour. At that time, 60 percent of all U.S. workers will be in states with wage floors above the federal minimum.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epi.org\/blog\/20-states-raise-their-minimum-wages-while-the-federal-minimum-continues-to-erode\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Economic Policy Institute<\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>produced a good map showing states where minimum wages will exceed the federal minimum as of Jan. 1. If a state has an \u201cI\u201d on the map, this means that the minimum wages in the state also are tied to some index of price inflation (such as the Consumer Price Index).
