{"id":9243,"date":"2014-12-01T17:29:15","date_gmt":"2014-12-01T22:29:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=9243"},"modified":"2014-12-01T17:29:15","modified_gmt":"2014-12-01T22:29:15","slug":"usps-avoiding-ethical-lapses-during-the-holidays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2014\/12\/01\/usps-avoiding-ethical-lapses-during-the-holidays\/","title":{"rendered":"USPS: Avoiding ethical lapses during the holidays"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Ethically yours<\/h1>\n<h2>Avoiding ethical lapses during the holidays<\/h2>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/liteblue.usps.gov\/news\/link\/2014\/12dec\/images\/news01s4.jpg\" alt=\"Holiday ethics\" width=\"220\" \/><\/div>\n<h6>Complying with ethical conduct standards is especially important during the holidays.<\/h6>\n<p>The Ethics Office wants employees to know that complying with the Federal Standards of Ethical Conduct \u2014 which apply all year long \u2014 is especially important during the holidays, when employees often participate in seasonal activities while on the job.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEmployees who aren\u2019t aware of the rules could find themselves in an uncomfortable and embarrassing ethical conflict,\u201d says Senior Ethics Counsel Jessica Brewster-Johnson. \u201cWe want to make sure employees who take part in holiday activities know what\u2019s permissible so they can avoid problems.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Ethics Office has prepared an<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/liteblue.usps.gov\/news\/link\/2013\/12dec\/2013-Holiday-Ethics-Guide.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">online presentation<\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>to help employees become familiar with the standards of ethical conduct.<\/p>\n<p>The presentation includes standards that apply to exchanging gifts between employees, receiving gifts from outside sources \u2014 including contractors \u2014 and attending holiday parties hosted by organizations outside USPS.<\/p>\n<p>Employees with questions about the presentation or specific situations can call the Ethics Hotline at 202-268-6346 or send an email to<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"mailto:ethics.help@usps.gov\" target=\"_blank\">ethics.help@usps.gov<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ethically yours Avoiding ethical lapses during the holidays Complying with ethical conduct standards is especially important during the holidays.
