The ads ask them to buy school supplies elsewhere. The APWU has also developed a<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.apwu.org\/sites\/apwu\/files\/resource-files\/stopstaples_teachers.pdf\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"file\" style=\"box-sizing: border-box;\">flyer<\/span><\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>for distribution to teachers that asks them to honor the boycott.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe focus on teachers and parents is crucial because school supplies account for roughly one-third of Staples\u2019 revenue,\u201d said APWU President Mark Dimondstein. Public school teachers spent more than $1.3 billion out of their own pockets on school supplies and educational products in the 2009-2010 school year, according to research released in 2010 by the National School Supply and Equipment Association (NSSEA).<br \/>\n\u201cI encourage all APWU members to ask the teachers they know and the parents of school-age children they know to buy school supplies from other stores. Locals should distribute the flyers and ask for support from our friends and allies throughout the labor movement and in our communities,\u201d Dimondstein said.<\/p>\n<p>The National Education Association took action in support of the<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><em style=\"line-height: inherit; font-style: italic; box-sizing: border-box;\">Stop Staples!<\/em><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Campaign in May and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) voted to join the<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><em style=\"line-height: inherit; font-style: italic; box-sizing: border-box;\">\u2018Don\u2019t Buy Staples\u2019<\/em><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>movement in mid-July. We intend to keep up the pressure until Staples gets out of the mail business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As the flyer says, \u201cWhen you shop for supplies \u2013 for your classroom or your home \u2013 don\u2019t shop at Staples.
