{"id":8065,"date":"2014-07-19T08:04:20","date_gmt":"2014-07-19T13:04:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=8065"},"modified":"2014-07-19T08:05:11","modified_gmt":"2014-07-19T13:05:11","slug":"rss-coming-to-more-than-400-post-offices-nationwide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2014\/07\/19\/rss-coming-to-more-than-400-post-offices-nationwide\/","title":{"rendered":"RSS coming to more than 400 Post Offices nationwide"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"margin: 0.25em 0px; color: #222222; text-transform: none; text-indent: 0px; letter-spacing: normal; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 24px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; word-spacing: 0px; white-space: normal; background-color: #ffffff; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px;\">Retail system software update<\/h1>\n<h2 style=\"margin: 0.5em 0px; color: #222222; text-transform: none; line-height: 16px; text-indent: 0px; letter-spacing: normal; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; word-spacing: 0px; white-space: normal; background-color: #ffffff; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px;\">RSS coming to more than 400 Post Offices nationwide<\/h2>\n<p>USPS &#8211; 7\/18\/14 &#8211; As part of the Postal Service\u2019s continuing plan to replace its current retail system software, more than 400 Post Offices nationwide will receive\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/liteblue.usps.gov\/news\/link\/2012\/04apr\/news26s4.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Retail Systems Software<\/a>\u00a0(RSS) this summer.<\/p>\n<p>This upgrade \u2014 to be completed by mid-August \u2014 will set the stage for national deployment of RSS in February 2015.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/1aa-USPS-small.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-7270\" src=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/1aa-USPS-small.gif\" alt=\"1aa-USPS-small\" width=\"250\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>RSS has been tested at various pilot sites since 2012, including in Hebron, CT, where Retail Associate Julie Uricchio says it\u2019s simple to use. \u201cIt\u2019s more intuitive,\u201d said Uricchio, comparing it to previous Point of Sale (POS) software. \u201cThe screen is set up differently, menus are organized more logically by task; there aren\u2019t as many layers to go through when performing a task.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Uricchio said RSS training took about 4 hours, and she\u2019s looking forward to easier updates of the POS machines when there are future price changes.<\/p>\n<p>RSS replaces software on POS, self-service kiosk and Contract Access Retail System equipment. Hardware for these systems will remain the same.<\/p>\n<p>Outside USPS, the software is being used in more than 30 countries for retail postal needs, including self-service locations, electronic parcel locker kiosks, franchises, remote access offices, foreign military offices and embassies.<\/p>\n<p>RSS is part of the\u00a0DRIVE\u00a0Access Optimization initiative.
