June 13, 2014 – The Postal Service is always on the move, and so are other posts around the world.<\/p>\n

The United Kingdom Post Office\u00a0recently deployed\u00a0a fleet of 40 new \u201cmobile post offices\u201d to serve rural customers in 250 locations. The vans will provide letter and parcel postage, bill payment and personal banking services, including cash withdrawals. \"UK-Post<\/a><\/p>\n

The previous fleet traveled 3 million miles during the past six years.<\/p>\n

The U.K. Post Office, now independent of the recently privatized Royal Mail, is the United Kingdom\u2019s largest retail network, with 11,500 branches. More than 99 percent of people in the United Kingdom live within 3 miles of postal services.<\/p>\n

In rural areas, the need is greater. \u201cYou have to ask how people in these remote communities would be able to pay their utility bills and access cash easily without us,\u201d said mobile post operator Colin Lisgo.<\/p>\n

In the United States, rural carriers often function as mobile post offices, performing most of the same services offered at Post Office counters. USPS also offers\u00a0mobile retail services\u00a0at special events and to restore service in areas hit by natural disasters. Also, the\u00a0first mobile Village Post Office\u00a0(VPO) recently rolled into Dallas District.<\/p>\n
