Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) propose to bail-out the Highway Trust Fund with an almost $11 billion raid on the U.S. Postal Service. There is currently a $14 to $15 billion\u00a0 shortfall in the Trust Fund, which is funded by an excise tax on diesel and gasoline fuel. The fund pays for highway and road construction. The GOP leadership team seeks to use postal funds that would be saved by reducing delivery frequency from 6-days to 5-days to replenish the fund for one year. <a href=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/1a-NAPUS-small.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6549\" src=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/1a-NAPUS-small.gif\" alt=\"1a-NAPUS-small\" width=\"322\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This \u201csmoke and mirrors\u201d ploy is nonsensical. In fact, even the ultra-conservative and GOP-allied\u00a0Heritage Foundation\u00a0lambasted the scheme, calling it \u201cabsurd.\u201d The Postal Service is self-funded (no taxpayer dollars for postal operations), off-budget and has its own financial challenges. It should not be a cash-cow to stabilize other entities.<\/p>\n<p>Postmasters should notify their Representatives to oppose the Leadership\u2019s attempted raid on the Postal Service.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Congressional Raid on USPS \u2014 You Can\u2019t Make This Up!
