Cutbacks in hours are also planned in surrounding Bay Area communities. <a href=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/1aa-APWU-small.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-7249\" src=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/1aa-APWU-small.gif\" alt=\"1aa-APWU-small\" width=\"295\" height=\"182\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px 0px 1.25em; padding: 0px; line-height: 1.62em; font-family: inherit; font-size: 0.87em; font-weight: 400; direction: ltr; box-sizing: border-box; text-rendering: optimizelegibility;\">\u201cThey\u2019re shutting the doors at 5 p.m. and posting signs sending people to private locations \u2013 including Staples \u2013 to conduct postal business,\u201d said Geoffray Dumaguit, president of the San Francisco Local of the American Postal Workers Union. \u201cThis will inconvenience and irritate our customers, who often need to visit a Post Office after work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px 0px 1.25em; padding: 0px; line-height: 1.62em; font-family: inherit; font-size: 0.87em; font-weight: 400; direction: ltr; box-sizing: border-box; text-rendering: optimizelegibility;\">Postmaster General Patrick R. Donahoe has denied that Staples stores would replace any of the nation\u2019s 33,000 traditional Post Offices, but six months into the program, hours are being curtailed at nearby USPS offices.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0px 0px 1.25em; padding: 0px; line-height: 1.62em; font-family: inherit; font-size: 0.87em; font-weight: 400; direction: ltr; box-sizing: border-box; text-rendering: optimizelegibility;\">The Postmaster General also claimed there would be no loss of USPS jobs as a result of the Staples deal, which allows the retail giant to conduct most of the business U.S. Post Offices handle.
