The bill is scheduled for consideration by the committee on Wednesday, May 7. <a href=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/1aa-APWU-small.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-7249\" src=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/1aa-APWU-small.gif\" alt=\"1aa-APWU-small\" width=\"295\" height=\"182\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe write on behalf of nearly 500,000 postal employees who live and work in every Congressional District in America to urge you to oppose the so-called \u2018Administration\u2019s Postal Reform Act of 2014,&#8217;\u201d the presidents wrote. \u201cIf you serve on the Oversight and Government Reform (OGR) Committee, we ask that you vote against the legislation on Wednesday. If you do not serve on the committee, we urge you to express your opposition to the bill.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe legislation drastically reduces service,&#8221; said APWU President Mark Dimondstein. &#8220;It ends Saturday mail delivery and promotes contracting out of retail services &#8212; including in outside retail establishments. It fails to protect service standards, and fails to address in any meaningful way the cause of the Postal Service\u2019s manufactured financial crisis,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur organizations are committed to working with leaders in both parties to strengthen the Postal Service,\u201d the letter says. \u201cUnfortunately, the bill before the OGR Committee on Wednesday would severely weaken it.
