{"id":7413,"date":"2014-04-22T15:58:32","date_gmt":"2014-04-22T20:58:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=7413"},"modified":"2014-04-22T15:58:32","modified_gmt":"2014-04-22T20:58:32","slug":"usps-sets-the-record-straight-misinformation-on-usps-tracking-corrected","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2014\/04\/22\/usps-sets-the-record-straight-misinformation-on-usps-tracking-corrected\/","title":{"rendered":"USPS Sets the Record Straight: Misinformation on USPS Tracking Corrected"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>4\/22\/14 <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A recent Letter to the Editor at <em>eCommerceBytes<\/em> regarding USPS Tracking contained numerous statements that required a response.<\/p>\n<p>In a reply, USPS set the record straight. <a href=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/1aa-USPS-small.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-7270\" src=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/1aa-USPS-small.gif\" alt=\"1aa-USPS-small\" width=\"250\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Claim:<\/strong> USPS charges customers who scan items at local Post Offices.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Truth:<\/strong> Every item accepted at the retail counter at a local Post Office that has a USPS Tracking number must be scanned, whether the customer requests it or not. However, Post Offices don\u2019t charge customers to scan prepaid eBay packages.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Claim:<\/strong> There\u2019s no tracking on delivery confirmation or signature confirmation until a package reaches its destination.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Truth:<\/strong> This is incorrect information. USPS replaced \u201cDelivery Confirmation\u201d last year with \u201cUSPS Tracking,\u201d which better reflects end-to-end tracking from the acceptance of a package to final destination, including confirmation of delivery.<\/p>\n<p>By the time a package leaves a processing site, it will have received at least two scans. The package will have received four more scan events by the time it\u2019s delivered.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Claim:<\/strong> Packages at mail processing plants may not be scanned if barcodes aren\u2019t visible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Truth:<\/strong> This also is incorrect information. In some instances, if the barcode is not visible, the package will be re-oriented by hand.
