{"id":7224,"date":"2014-03-20T07:15:06","date_gmt":"2014-03-20T12:15:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=7224"},"modified":"2014-03-20T07:16:28","modified_gmt":"2014-03-20T12:16:28","slug":"national-association-of-letter-carriers-stands-with-apwu-to-stop-staples","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2014\/03\/20\/national-association-of-letter-carriers-stands-with-apwu-to-stop-staples\/","title":{"rendered":"National Association of Letter Carriers Stands with APWU to \u2018Stop Staples\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>March 20, 2014<\/p>\n<p>The National Association of Letter Carriers is taking a stand in support of the APWU\u2019s fight against the sweetheart deal between the USPS and Staples that puts postal retail operations in Staples stores \u2014 and staffs them with low-wage, high-turnover Staples employees rather than postal employees.<\/p>\n<p>In a March 18 posting on the NALC\u2019s website, President Fredric Rolando encouraged all NALC members to \u201cjoin with the APWU and other postal unions in a National Day of Action on Thursday, April 24, to protest the privatization of postal retail services at Staples stores.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmericans value and deserve postal services provided by highly trained, uniformed and accountable employees who work directly for the Postal Service, not for an office-supplies retail chain,\u201d Rolando said. \u201cJust as the members of the APWU stand with the NALC in our battle to preserve six-day mail delivery service, so do letter carriers stand with our brothers and sisters in this fight against privatization.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/1-b-NALC-small.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-7225\" alt=\"1-b-NALC-small\" src=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/1-b-NALC-small.gif\" width=\"300\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>APWU President Mark Dimondstein applauded the NALC\u2019s statement. \u201cWe appreciate the support of our brothers and sisters in the NALC, which follows a verbal commitment from all of the postal unions to support this struggle,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is the true meaning of solidarity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis unity will strengthen our fight for a vibrant, public Postal Service.\u201d APWU locals should be sure to reach out to our brothers and sisters in the National Association of Letter Carriers when they are organizing protests, he said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/stopstaples.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Send Staples a message<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Source: APWU<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>March 20, 2014 The National Association of Letter Carriers is taking a stand in support of the APWU\u2019s fight against the sweetheart deal between the USPS and Staples that puts postal retail operations in Staples stores \u2014 and staffs them with low-wage, high-turnover Staples employees rather than postal employees.
