{"id":7170,"date":"2014-03-11T17:07:47","date_gmt":"2014-03-11T22:07:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=7170"},"modified":"2014-03-11T17:07:47","modified_gmt":"2014-03-11T22:07:47","slug":"national-day-of-action-to-stop-staples-set-for-april-24","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2014\/03\/11\/national-day-of-action-to-stop-staples-set-for-april-24\/","title":{"rendered":"National Day of Action To Stop Staples Set for April 24"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>APWU News &#8211; March 11, 2014<\/p>\n<p>The APWU has announced a National Day of Action on April 24 to protest the sweetheart deal between the USPS and Staples that puts postal retail operations in Staples stores \u2014 and staffs them with low-wage, high-turnover Staples employees. <a href=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/stop-staples.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6981\" alt=\"stop-staples\" src=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/stop-staples.gif\" width=\"190\" height=\"190\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are asking APWU members and supporters to mark their calendars and hold April 24 for a National Day of Action to protest the privatization of postal retail services,\u201d said APWU President Mark Dimondstein. \u201cThis deal threatens the nation\u2019s public Postal Service and thousands of postal jobs,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe support the expansion of customer access to USPS services, but we insist that postal work must be performed by uniformed postal workers who have passed a background check, taken an oath of office, and are accountable to the people,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The union will organize protests outside Staples stores in cities across the country and invite customers and supporters to attend, he said. Workers and supporters who are unable to attend will be asked to engage in other activities, such as signing petitions and sending text messages.
