The Accordable Care Act, commonly known as ObamaCare, is gaining the attention of many unions across the nation. Some unions, it is reported, are seeking repeal or reform of the Affordable Care Act.<\/p>\n

The Hill states<\/a> “Labor unions are breaking with President Obama on ObamaCare. Months after the president\u2019s reelection, a variety of unions are publicly balking at how the administration plans to implement the landmark law. They warn that unless there are changes, the results could be catastrophic.”<\/em><\/p>\n

The United Union of\u00a0 Roofers, Waterproofers, and Allied Workers\u00a0issued a press release<\/a> in April that, in part, states:<\/p>\n

“Our Union and its members have supported President Obama and his Administration for both of his terms in office. <\/em>But regrettably, our concerns over certain provisions in the ACA (Affordable Care Act\u00a0or ObamaCare)\u00a0have not been addressed, or in some instances, totally ignored. In the rush to achieve its passage, many of the Act’s provisions were not fully conceived, resulting in unintended consequences that are inconsistent with the promise that those who were satisfied with their employer sponsored coverage could keep it.”<\/em><\/p>\n

Joe Hansen, president of the 1.3 million member United Food and Commercial Workers International Union<\/a>, published an op-ed<\/a>\u00a0with The Hill<\/a> wherein he states “Unfortunately, what also has become increasingly clear with each passing day is that the president\u2019s statement to labor in 2009 (regarding healthcare) is simply not true for millions of workers.”<\/em><\/p>\n

UFCW President Hansen further states “We don\u2019t want a handout. Our members want to keep the healthcare they currently have. Let me repeat \u2014 our members want to keep the healthcare they currently have. We just want them to be treated fairly.”<\/em><\/p>\n
