{"id":6023,"date":"2013-04-16T07:38:04","date_gmt":"2013-04-16T12:38:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=6023"},"modified":"2013-04-16T07:38:04","modified_gmt":"2013-04-16T12:38:04","slug":"issa-announces-usps-hearing-for-wednesday-april-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2013\/04\/16\/issa-announces-usps-hearing-for-wednesday-april-17\/","title":{"rendered":"Issa Announces USPS Hearing For Wednesday April 17"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Darrell-Issa.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-6024\" title=\"Darrell Issa\" src=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Darrell-Issa-300x168.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Darrell-Issa-300x168.gif 300w, https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/04\/Darrell-Issa.gif 495w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>April 11, 2013 WASHINGTON \u2013 House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., today announced that he would convene a full committee hearing next Wednesday to examine the future of the United States Postal Service.<\/p>\n<p>The hearing will explore a range of options to avoid a multi-billion dollar taxpayer funded bailout and restore USPS to long-term financial solvency.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Postal Service\u2019s decision to first pursue modified Saturday delivery and then renege on its cost-cutting plan has seriously set back efforts to advance postal reform legislation,\u201d said Issa. \u201cThis hearing will allow us to review a wide variety of options to bring the troubled agency back from insolvency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The modified six-day delivery schedule, announced on February 6th of this year, would\u2019ve saved USPS approximately $2 billion per year. On April 10th, USPS reversed its earlier decision and decided not to pursue a modified delivery schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Among the witnesses invited will be Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe and members of the USPS Board of Governors, the Presidentially-appointed and Senate-confirmed body that governs the Postal Service.<\/p>\n<p>The hearing, entitled \u201cOptions to Bring the Postal Service Back from Insolvency,\u201d will be held Wednesday April 17th at 9:30 a.m. in Rayburn 2154 and can be viewed online <a href=\"http:\/\/oversight.house.gov\/hearing\/options-to-bring-the-postal-service-back-from-insolvency\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>April 11, 2013 WASHINGTON \u2013 House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., today announced that he would convene a full committee hearing next Wednesday to examine the future of the United States Postal Service.
