{"id":5446,"date":"2012-11-20T23:07:06","date_gmt":"2012-11-21T04:07:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=5446"},"modified":"2012-11-20T23:07:06","modified_gmt":"2012-11-21T04:07:06","slug":"we-are-already-paying","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2012\/11\/20\/we-are-already-paying\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018We\u2019re Already Paying,\u2019 Federal, Postal Worker Groups Remind Congress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/APWU-News3.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5447\" title=\"APWU-News\" src=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/APWU-News3-150x150.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The APWU and a broad coalition of postal and government employee organizations is urging Congress not to extract additional budget savings from the pockets of pubic workers and retirees as it attempts to avoid an impasse over \u201cfiscal cliff\u201d issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe federal workforce already has borne the burden of substantial budget savings over the past two years,\u201d the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apwu.org\/news\/webart\/2012\/12-139-fpcletter-121120.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Federal-Postal Coalition said in a letter to members of Congress<\/a> [PDF] Nov. 19.<\/p>\n<p>Since the beginning of 2011, the coalition noted, Congress has already passed more than $103 billion (over $50,000 per employee) in cuts to federal employee compensation over the next 10 years.
