{"id":5150,"date":"2012-09-19T15:51:15","date_gmt":"2012-09-19T20:51:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=5150"},"modified":"2012-09-19T15:51:15","modified_gmt":"2012-09-19T20:51:15","slug":"apwu-honor-the-contract-join-the-fight-to-save-the-usps","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2012\/09\/19\/apwu-honor-the-contract-join-the-fight-to-save-the-usps\/","title":{"rendered":"APWU: Honor the Contract; Join the Fight to Save the USPS"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/APWU-News4.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-5151\" title=\"APWU-News\" src=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/09\/APWU-News4-150x150.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>APWU members have begun receiving brochures that include a tear-off card to mail to the chairman of the USPS Board of Governors, calling on him to instruct the Postmaster General to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adhere to the Collective Bargaining Agreement and<\/li>\n<li>Work with the postal unions \u2013 which represent hundreds of thousands of dedicated postal employees \u2013 to Save America\u2019s Postal Service.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Union members, retirees, friends and supporters are being asked to fill out the card, sign it, affix a stamp and send it in. The mailing is the result of a resolution adopted by delegates to the union\u2019s National Convention in August.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Board of Governors sets policy for the USPS,\u201d said APWU President Cliff Guffey. \u201cWe want postal employees and supporters to let the board know that we intend to fight to preserve the Postal Service \u2013 and we want the board and the Postal Service\u2019s top executives to join the battle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey must abandon the policy of dismantling the postal network and slashing service,\u201d he added. \u201cThat strategy is doomed to fail.
