{"id":4988,"date":"2012-08-23T07:13:01","date_gmt":"2012-08-23T12:13:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/?p=4988"},"modified":"2012-08-23T07:13:01","modified_gmt":"2012-08-23T12:13:01","slug":"apwu-endorses-barack-obama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/2012\/08\/23\/apwu-endorses-barack-obama\/","title":{"rendered":"APWU Endorses Barack Obama"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"highslide\" onclick=\"return vz.expand(this)\" href=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/APWU-News7.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-4989\" title=\"APWU-News\" src=\"https:\/\/postalemployeenetwork.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/APWU-News7-150x150.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Delegates to the APWU\u2019s 21st Biennial Convention voted unanimously on Wednesday to endorse President Barack Obama for a second term.<\/p>\n<p>In these difficult times for postal workers and for all working people, delegates expressed their clear belief that President Obama stands on the side of workers, while his opponent this November threatens the very existence of the labor movement.<\/p>\n<p>In his State of the Union address earlier in the week, President Guffey told the assembled delegates that \u201cIf there\u2019s a Republican House, a Republican Senate and a Republican president [in January], it won\u2019t be a matter of years \u2014 it will be a matter of days before we lose our right to collective bargaining.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Delegates listened to a recorded message from President Obama shortly before the vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to build an economy that lasts,\u201d the President said, \u201cand that\u2019s why we\u2019re pushing back against the assault on unions, because the values you stand for \u2014 hard work, responsibility, looking out for one another \u2014 aren\u2019t just union values.
