However, these items belong to USPS, and theft of USPS property is a federal felony.<\/p>\n<p>Local postal officials may not dispose of historic items \u2014 whether by loan, donation, sale, or otherwise \u2014 without the approval of the <a href=\"mailto:phistory@usps.gov\">USPS historian<\/a>.
